As a little girl, I remember being offered the opportunity to give my life to God. Unfortunately, I didn't know how to create a connection with someone I didn't see or, better yet, how to build a relationship. Not knowing how to stay connected to God after dedicating my life to Him caused me to make mistakes and take detours in my walk with Christ. I hope this passage will help you as you attempt to build and stay connected to God.
As with a natural relationship, creating a healthy relationship with God must include communication, trust, commitment, and loyalty. Communication is an essential piece in your relationship with God, as with any relationship. A relationship will not last long without effective communication. Communicating with the Father daily and multiple times a day strengthens your connection and allows you to get to know Him. One can communicate by way of praying, fasting, reading the bible, mediation, etc. The bible lets us know that men ought always to pray, and not faint (Luke 18:1).
Praying is a sure connection with the Father, and it is the most personal way to connect with Him. As with a natural relationship, when one is interested in someone, they often talk multiple times a day to learn all they can about the individual. Well, it should be no different with our heavenly Father.
Communicating with God allows you to learn as much as you can about Him, and it will also enable Him to pour into you as well. After all, communication is the imparting and the exchanging of ideas between two or more people. Prayer should never be a one-way conversation, and allowing God to speak to you is essential in your Christian walk. As you begin to spend time with the heavenly Father regularly, you will start to recognize His voice. As you begin to learn and listen to His voice, your relationship with the Father will become enriched, and this ultimately leads to you trusting Him.
Saturating your mind and daily routine with Godly things produces a healthy relationship, which is necessary for your spiritual connection to be effective. It is important to remember that effective communication brings about trust, trust brings about commitment, and commitment brings about loyalty. Those four elements are essential and are a sure way for you to start and build an everlasting relationship with our heavenly Father. We will continue to discuss the remaining keys (trust, commitment, and loyalty) to developing a healthy relationship with God in the upcoming months.
